Ethiopia has a very large area that produces Organic Sesame. At this point we have Wellega type and Humera type.

Kaleb exports Humera sesame for foreign market and prepares 99.9% clean organic Sesame according to the lab test conducted by Salamon and Seabar laboratory on 07/04/05 . Organic Sesame in Humera is cultivated by commercial farmers. Mr. Kifle Araya and Abadi who are actively engaged in the activity forexample,produces such Organic Sesame on a 5000 hectares of land.

Niger seed (Nug)   is also the category of oil seeds which has good market demand in USA and European markets for for cooking and also for birds feed.

 

These days both small and large scale farmers are developing and are well developed.Specifically,western Tigray,(Humera),Gonder (Metema),the entire region of the Benishangul-Gumuz Western Wellega ,and Central and South-Western of Kaffa Zone are the main production areas of the Ethiopian Sesame Seeds.(See Map)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Of all these ,Humera is the biggest production area.This area produces Ethiopian Whitish sesame seeds.

 

It has been five years since Kaleb Services started to export Organic and Conventional Sesame Seeds.
